Fluffy, buttery rolls stuffed with melted cheddar – perfect for soups, BBQs, or snacking!
Ingredients (Makes 12 rolls):
3 cups (375g) bread flour (or all-purpose)
1 tbsp (10g) instant yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 cup (240ml) warm milk (110°F/45°C)
1 large egg, room temperature
¼ cup (60g) butter, melted
1½ cups (180g) sharp cheddar, shredded
2 tbsp fresh chives, chopped (optional)
Egg wash: 1 egg + 1 tbsp milk
Optional Add-ins:
¼ cup cooked bacon bits
1 tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp mustard powder
Instructions:
1. Make the Dough
In a stand mixer, whisk flour, yeast, sugar, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Knead 5-7 minutes until smooth.
2. First Rise
Cover bowl; let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
3. Shape Rolls
Punch down dough; divide into 12 pieces. Flatten each piece, add 1 tbsp cheese (and chives/bacon if using). Pinch to seal. Arrange in a greased 9×13-inch pan. Cover; rise 30 minutes.
4. Bake
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with egg wash; sprinkle extra cheese. Bake 18-20 minutes until golden.
5. Serve Warm
Pull apart and enjoy with soup, chili, or garlic butter!
