Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Make the Cake
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour 10-inch tube pan.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (5 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
- In separate bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt.
- Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to batter.
- Stir in vanilla and melted chocolate.
- Pour into prepared pan. Bake 1 hour 20 minutes or until toothpick comes clean.
2. Prepare Frosting
- While cake bakes, combine milk, sugar, yolks and butter in saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat 12 minutes, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat; stir in vanilla, coconut and pecans.
- Cool to spreadable consistency (about 30 minutes).
3. Assemble
- Let cake cool in pan 15 minutes, then invert onto rack.
- When completely cool, spread frosting over top, letting it drizzle down sides.
